Up early this morning to catch a taxi to Washington Hotel - our check point for our full day tour. We arrived early enough to share an intimate breakfast of cheese toast at the hotel's cafe... the waiter brought out a salad first - by which we were a little confused - but the toast followed shortly after.
All aboard the GrayLine Tourist bus - first stop Tokyo Tower. We rode the elevator to the observation deck where we had 360 degree views of Tokyo. Mother dearest began requesting 'selfies' - a term which I am not comfortable with her saying out loud. We're working on that..
Next stop was the Meiji Shrine where we saw a traditional Japanese wedding taking place. The history and architecture of the buildings here are amazing. We also visited two traditional gardens. The contrast between some of the photos taken is incredible.. City high rises in the background while serene garden in the foreground.
During lunch, a lady (later to be named Susanne) overheard Mum and I talking about getting back to our hotel (after the previous night's events) - the hotel she happened to be staying at as well and had remembered seeing us that morning. WELL! Needless to say Susanne and Kaye hit it off and we spent the rest of our day getting to know our new friend!
We ended the tour with a river cruise from Tokyo to Asakusa. With a train and subway ride home - we have the hang of it now... basically locals - we looked around for a place to have dinner. We experienced some excellent table service - they liked us so much they gave us a little goodie bag with a Chinese Moon Cake inside - delicious!
Two very tired travellers about to hit the sack. Shopping tomorrow - safe to say I'm pretty excited! We just have to negotiate the train to get to Hirajuku, Shibuya and Ueno!
